Manchester Synagogue attack: suspect shot by police after vehicle, stabbing incident

A terrifying attack unfolded outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Thursday morning, leaving four people injured and shocking the local community.

As per a Financial Times report, the police shot a suspect who had driven a car into people gathered near the synagogue before launching a stabbing spree.

The incident began around 9:30 AM, when the man reportedly used his vehicle to ram into members of the public outside the synagogue. He then proceeded to attack people with a knife.

Officers with firearms arrived within minutes and fired shots at 9:38 AM, hitting the suspect believed to be responsible for the violence.

Emergency crews quickly treated the wounded, some injured by the car, others from stab wounds.

Attack on Yom Kippur hits community hard

The timing of the assault, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, has deeply rattled Manchester’s Jewish community.

Andy Burnham, the city’s mayor, spoke on the BBC, confirming the suspect was believed to be dead following the police intervention.

“The immediate danger seems to have passed,” Burnham said. “Greater Manchester Police acted quickly and effectively to bring this frightening episode to an end.”

Investigations are ongoing as authorities search for answers behind the attack’s motivation. Police also urged anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, the community is left grappling with fear and sorrow on a day meant for reflection and peace.

This is a developing story, will be updated soon.
